Everyone mentioned Catch 22 so I Googled it and played to your music…very fun game. It’s cool they would put a game like this to your music.

Dear Mr. Shepard,

I’m considering playing one of your songs for a scholarship competition and i was wondering if it would be possible to make the sheet music to Back to the Basics. That would be erally helpful. I love all of your music, but Back to the Basics really speaks to me, and i’d love to play it for my scholarship. Thanks loads. and please never stop writing music. :)

I’ve played piano for almost 6 years (I’m 17), but I’ve had no desire to go back to classical music in 4 years, after I started playing off of chord charts. After getting half-way through “Music Catch 2″, I had to find out who was making these awesome compositions. And I had to learn to play them for myself.

Thank you Mr. Shepard for not only sharing these amazing pieces, but more importantly for not being afraid to share your faith in Christ

Hey Isaac your pieces are awesome I’m 18 now and I’ve been playing the piano since the 3rd grade. Piano has been a big part in my life bcuz I was hit with a rare heart murmur when I was born and went through surgery at 6 weeks old and another at 3 yrs. This also made ineligible through sports. This put me through a lot of misery since I couldn’t play with my friends or family. That’s why my mom put me in a piano class. Mrs. Wallace my teacher is amazing and is the only reason I’m as good as I am now and I just finished your piece, “leaves in the wind” and my friends and family love hearing me play it so I wanted to thank you for that

Mucho éxito.

You works are amazing pieces of art. After quiting piano for about a year at grade 4, i have gotten back into it because the flash game “music catch 2″, and through extension, the songs in this album. I thank you for bringing back self-made music back into my life. Though they are simple and easy to play songs, they sound so much better than any song of it’s simplicity have any right to.

Comment from Benjamin

its been a year and a half since i’ve been on this site. I’m still yearning for “back to basics”. mr. shephard i just wanted to say that I quit piano for many years, and refused to ever play it. After listening to your music two years ago, I was inspired to create something. I was inspired to play your music, and for the first time in many years, I played the piano again. you have no idea what effect your music has on people. continue what you are doing, you will live on forever through your music.

As soon as I posted my last comment and looked at the sheet music again, I finally noticed the small 8 above the treble clef. I have played saxophone for several years and have not seen this before so I didn’t notice it. I’m going to assume it is signaling a higher octave. =b a little embarrassed I missed it before.

Keep up the great work!

Comment from Taylor
Time: February 23, 2011, 5:58 pm

First I want to say I love the songs from music catch 2 and are exactly the type of songs I want to learn how to play and enjoy listening to. I have been listening to letting go while I use the sheet music and I was wondering if the two clefs in the grand staff are supposed to be the same. It says both sets of triplets start on the same A, but the audio is an octave higher.
The sheet music for Gentle and Leaves in The Wind have this as well. In order to play these songs according to the sheet music both hands must be in exactly the same spot. Am I reading it wrong? I’m relatively new to piano but not sheet music. Clearing this up would greatly help in learning to play these incredible songs!

Thank you again!

Comment from David Stockinger

Usually, I listen to metal. You know, growling and such.
Probably most of the listeners here don’t know any metal band or anything in that genre, but after all, these genres, classic and metal are very close.
Both tell stories through music…
Both are intense, make you want to close your eyes and just listen…

Anyways, I have to admit, the song “Letting go” made me do so…and I remember stepping back into the real world again with tears in my eyes.

Isaac, this song is wonderful. If I had a paypal account or whatever I’d buy it ten times.

Please, continue your work. Please, for the sake of music!

I can’t tell you how happy I am to meet the composer and performer of the music that has entranced me since first hearing it! I was hooked on Music Catch 2 just for the music (although the game is also nice), and I usually put it on at night to help me get into sleep mode, clear my head & relax a little. Just got to wondering how I could get just the music for my IPod, went Googling & found you. I’ll be getting the cd, and if I ever take up the piano again, I’m glad to know the sheet music is available. You are my hero!

I love your music very much. Actually I found your music by accident when I was just broke up with a guy I like very much and when I was listening to “Gentle”, I couldn’t stop crying, because I thank God that this world is still so beautiful, I have met a guy who made me laugh but we realized we all have different goals and I have friends they didn’t say anything, but supported me when I just wanted to cry. I shared your web link to friends world-wide, let them know that no matter it’s good time or bad time in their life, there’s nice music to calm them down and they will always have my prayer for them to enjoy “life”.

Thank you for all the music and wish you all the best.

I am so choosy that if I like something, I regard it as a grand event. After playing Music Catch 2 for just a few minutes, I fell in love with both the game and the music. The synchronization between the two is pure visual harmony. At first I thought only Leaves was special, then I found Gentle to be even better and Letting Go to be better still especially at 2:09. Your music has that melodic complexity which is so rare and which I so crave.

Comment from Isaac Shepard

@Arianne, thanks for writing! I would say that the most important thing is that you enjoy playing the music. After that, there are lots of different things to practice besides hitting the notes, such as timing and emotion. You might want to try to play the song along with the recording and listen for when your notes are too loud or too soft. If you’re having fun with it and practicing, I’m sure it will get better soon enough. Thanks!

I wished that you could write some music for my poem titled Flying. I just know that you could do such wonderful things with your creativity. I would love someone interpret my poem into music. Hi Sir!
I REALLY think your music is awesome.
I most of the time get depressed easily mostly because of the nagging from my mum. But your music makes me OK every time I hear it so thank you.
And by ”slowly” does that mean you can’t read music?!?! :o

Comment from Isaac Shepard

@Benjamin, yes, I memorize most of my music. However, recording the songs digitally (via MIDI) certainly helps, and I’m slowly learning how to play from sheet music (with an emphasis on “slowly”). :-)

@nathan, I have a Pramberger JP-52 (studio upright piano). I recorded “Swept Away” with it. For digital recording, I use a Yamaha S90ES.

Hi Issac,
Wow, your music is amazing! I just love it. Listen, I was listening to Gentle, and it sounds like a great song to put in a movie that im working on. It will take a while to finish it but I think that Gentle is a very soothing opening song for a sad, romantic movie! I’ll look into it a bit more because I’m right now in the middle of writing the movie. Hope to hear from you soon……. It possibly will be a book, but, I dont know.

Obviously im not Isaac but i may be able to help you with finding that music. amazon.com/.co.uk both sell it and also iTunes (many people dont use itunes so im not sure if thats much help) stocks it. its not expensive and, if your ordering from amazon itll be shiped fairly quickly so there wont be much of a wait. the first album you requested is definitely available but im not sure about that second one, i think Isaac told me a while ago that he hasnt released it atall, only his two piano albums.
Hope that help :)

Mr. Shephard,
There are already many, many compliments here. However, I am compelled to right my own.
There is a lot of music out there. There are especially a lot of pianists.
But you see, Mr. Shephard, your work stands out. Because you speak. You really do. Each one of your songs is just downright mind blowing.
Just, if one were to ask for a definition of music, it’s purpose, I would not try to speak. I would lead them to you.
Thank you, good sir – for doing what the best of us humans cannot. For putting into your music a stroke of feeling, a pure, unstained pinch of emotion.
May this music live forever.

Oh my, the sheet music confirms it! During the last few measures, you’re supposed to hit the lowest G and its cousin one octave up. My hands can handle the octave, but how do you move your hands to a EABC sequence then back to that lower G? I am having technical problems with this.

Comment from Isaac Shepard

To Aaron, first off let me say that I’m horrible at creating sheet music and could have very well gotten it wrong. That said, I put the 8va and 8vb markers over the clefs where appropriate; that is, the first 8 measures should be played an octave higher with the right hand and an octave lower than middle C with the left hand.

Comment from Aaron
Time: March 16, 2009, 8:42 pm

Hey Issac,

I don’t get the sheet music from lines 1-4. I was trying to play both hands on the treble clef, but it didn’t seem right. Is it really how it’s supposed to be played or did you make an error on the clefs?

Here’s the link (.ly source, pdf, postscript): http://mcv.mulabs.org/sheet-music/Isaac%20Shepard%20-%20Leaves%20in%20the%20Wind/

In 5…8 bars I typed in acciaccaturas, just like I could hear them in the song. Is it all right?

May the power be with you!

Hi from France.
The first time i heard your music was when i played Music Catch. I was immediatly attracted by the music Before Dawn and now, the same phenomen happens.
Can you create melody for tired souls because you’re one of them?
My little sister is a pianiste and i showed her your music and she’ll play Before Dawn for her exam of music.
Thank to internet that allow me to hear your music!

I think that the music, “Gentle” that was in music catch 2, was very good. it would mean a lot if there was a download for that music.

To mcv, that was my bad. I removed those extra notes in the new version. Thanks!

Hi again,

I have small question regarding sheet music for “Leaves in the Wind”. There are two note heads with the same pitch on one stem in bars 80, 83, 84 (and following). What does this mean?

though only 16 – i understand the beauty of all your music, your music truly does touch the heart, its like the sound of an angels voice (im not gay), i play alot of beautiful piano music, though all of yours appeals to my playing style – i enjoy playing the romantic and beautiful pieces, a few of ludovicos pieces fit that, but all of your pieces that iv heard truly do inspire me – i would like to see the sheet music for the deep joy set of pieces released – im sure im not alone on this one either.

If you’re going to publish or sell music sheets, please engrave it with Lilypond.org, not with something that gives ugly sheets like this: http://www.isaacshepard.com/music/Swept%20Away/Before%20Dawn.pdf :-)

Amanda, “Swept Away” is primarily available online; however, some stores may carry it… you might need to order it, though.

The same is true for “Deep Joy.” I’m working on making it available everywhere that “Swept Away” is available. Hopefully that won’t be more than a few weeks away. I’ll keep everyone posted. ;-)

Thanks!

Amazing! I’ll be getting this as soon as it releases on itunes. Gentle and Facing the Mirror are my favourites.

Im really glad that youve stuck to the solo piano compositions, because (no offence meant) i dont really like instrumentals like on subtle ground.

You truly are a gifted composer.

Amir

PS
Oh and can you please, please post a video of yourself playing some of your pieces on youtube or something… Please! :D
