I am so choosy that if I like something, I regard it as a grand event. After playing Music Catch 2 for just a few minutes, I fell in love with both the game and the music. The synchronization between the two is pure visual harmony. At first I thought only Leaves was special, then I found Gentle to be even better and Letting Go to be better still especially at 2:09. Your music has that melodic complexity which is so rare and which I so crave.

@Arianne, thanks for writing! I would say that the most important thing is that you enjoy playing the music. After that, there are lots of different things to practice besides hitting the notes, such as timing and emotion. You might want to try to play the song along with the recording and listen for when your notes are too loud or too soft. If you’re having fun with it and practicing, I’m sure it will get better soon enough. Thanks!

Hi Isaac….I must admit that I haven’t heard anything as beautiful as the music from the album Deep Joy in a very long time. Your music evokes such wonderful thoughts. I wished that you could write some music for my poem titled Flying. I just know that you could do such wonderful things with your creativity. I would love someone interpret my poem into music. It is such a dream of mine that I would love so much to see as I have a genetic heart condition and it is failing. But I keep on believing that someday I will be flying with angels. Thank you so very much for giving such a wonderful talent and gift to the world. We need more people like you. Always with love….Angel ^j^

I have not been so inspired in such a long time, and hearing your almost ethereal music has resonated with me deeply. You have an extraordinary talent.

I REALLY think your music is awesome.

And by ‘’slowly” does that mean you can’t read music?!?!

@Benjamin, yes, I memorize most of my music. However, recording the songs digitally (via MIDI) certainly helps, and I’m slowly learning how to play from sheet music (with an emphasis on “slowly”).

Hi Issac,
Wow, your music is amazing! I just love it. Listen, I was listening to Gentle, and it sounds like a great song to put in a movie that im working on. It will take a while to finish it but I think that Gentle is a very soothing opening song for a sad, romantic movie! I’ll look into it a bit more because I’m right now in the middle of writing the movie. Hope to hear from you soon……. It possibly will be a book, but, I dont know.

Hope that help

Mr. Shephard,
There are already many, many compliments here. However, I am compelled to right my own.
There is a lot of music out there. There are especially a lot of pianists.
But you see, Mr. Shephard, your work stands out. Because you speak. You really do. Each one of your songs is just downright mind blowing.
Just, if one were to ask for a definition of music, it’s purpose, I would not try to speak. I would lead them to you.
Thank you, good sir – for doing what the best of us humans cannot. For putting into your music a stroke of feeling, a pure, unstained pinch of emotion.
May this music live forever.

It is such a beautiful song that brings tears to my eyes (for whatever reason) and I would like to play it for my friends and family. I just love your music.
You listen to it and you just feel at peace, you dont care for the world around you, and you just feel all around good about yourself.
I would buy your music if i had the money.

I actually went ahead and made some purchases, which is slightly uncommon for me. I hope you keep up the great work. You have obviously created an atmosphere that is hard to achieve for many, and its greatly appreciated.

Your music is simply amazing! I’ve been practicing one of your songs for almost a year now, and it completely relaxes me and makes me forget all worries whenever I play it.
Would you also release the sheet music for “Gentle”? It’s my favorite, and I’d love to play it.

Hey Isaac, I’m i beginner in Piano. Im having some trouble with the “Leaves in the wind” sheet. If you could Please write the notes as in “A B C” and not with those annoying notes that i keep trying to figure out. Thanx very much. Appreciate it and keep playing. To Duy Pham, if it is the part I think you mean, I play the two G’s with my left hand spread out wide and then continue with the progression and back again.

Oh my, the sheet music confirms it! During the last few measures, you’re supposed to hit the lowest G and its cousin one octave up. My hands can handle the octave, but how do you move your hands to a EABC sequence then back to that lower G? I am having technical problems with this.

Thank you for uploading the sheet music for “Letting Go”. I asked for it a few days ago, but I could not wait, so I went ahead and tried to “ear” it. To my surprised, it went well and I was able to figure it out and learn it in 3 days. There are a few parts I am not sure about though, so the sheet music will hopefully clarify things.
Thanks Again, and God Bless You.

To Aaron, first off let me say that I’m horrible at creating sheet music and could have very well gotten it wrong. That said, I put the 8va and 8vb markers over the clefs where appropriate; that is, the first 8 measures should be played an octave higher with the right hand and an octave lower than middle C with the left hand.
Comment from Aaron
Time: March 16, 2009, 8:42 pm
Hey Issac,
I don’t get the sheet music from lines 1-4. I was trying to play both hands on the treble clef, but it didn’t seem right. Is it really how it’s supposed to be played or did you make an error on the clefs?

Hi again.
I typeset “Leaves in the Wind” in Lilypond from original sheet music (I have deviation to rewrite in Lilypond almost every piece I’m willing to learn playing unless sheet music is beautiful enough. :þ). Here’s the link (.ly source, pdf, postscript): http://mcv.mulabs.org/sheet-music/Isaac%20Shepard%20-%20Leaves%20in%20the%20Wind/
In 5…8 bars I typed in acciaccaturas, just like I could hear them in the song. Is it all right?
May the power be with you!

Hi from France.
The first time i heard your music was when i played Music Catch. I was immediatly attracted by the music Before Dawn and now, the same phenomen happens.
Can you create melody for tired souls because you’re one of them?
My little sister is a pianiste and i showed her your music and she’ll play Before Dawn for her exam of music.
Thank to internet that allow me to hear your music!

I have small question regarding sheet music for “Leaves in the Wind”. There are two note heads with the same pitch on one stem in bars 80, 83, 84 (and following). What does this mean?

though only 16 – i understand the beauty of all your music, your music truly does touch the heart, its like the sound of an angels voice (im not gay), i play alot of beautiful piano music, though all of yours appeals to my playing style – i enjoy playing the romantic and beautiful pieces, a few of ludovicos pieces fit that, but all of your pieces that iv heard truly do inspire me – i would like to see the sheet music for the deep joy set of pieces released – im sure im not alone on this one either.

The same is true for “Deep Joy.” I’m working on making it available everywhere that “Swept Away” is available. Hopefully that won’t be more than a few weeks away. I’ll keep everyone posted.

Amazing! I’ll be getting this as soon as it releases on itunes. Gentle and Facing the Mirror are my favourites.
Im really glad that youve stuck to the solo piano compositions, because (no offence meant) i dont really like instrumentals like on subtle ground.
You truly are a gifted composer.
