Your talent is beyond words. I have no idea why this music is so obscure, while – well, anything on the radio – is the accepted norm. “Sprinkle to Rain” and “Following the Footsteps” are so beyond anything I know – I just can’t express it. You clearly can. Please keep playing.
It’s so…

Mr. Shepard,
I really enjoy listening to your beautiful music. Deep Joy and Swept Away have both helped me through a rather long and depressing phase of my life, and I cannot thank you enough for composing such great music! This album, Awaken, is by far my favorite, and I hope your next album will be even better! Thank you and God bless you!

Are you making new Album ?

@Melissa, thanks! As far as songwriting goes, it often helps to give yourself arbitrary restrictions to work with. Here are some examples:
* Always only play two notes at a time.
* Never play the same note more than once
* For every three notes you play with your right hand, play one note with your left hand
* Always play notes that are at least three notes apart
Anything goes… make up your own restrictions or choose combinations of the ones above, and then stick to it. You’ll be surprised what you can come up with when you’re boxed in. There is nothing magical about the rules, but they can help keep you focused and keep your mind from worrying about all the options. I wish you the best coming up with a song!

Hi Mr. Shepard! I think your music is incredible, I listen to your songs all the time and I learned how to play Leaves In The Wind, Memories Never Fade, Struggles, and Romance of the Seas!!
I am trying to write my first song but I’m getting stuck…so I was wondering: do you have any tips for songwriting?

Haha, “movement” reminded me of Love Story by Taylor Swift when I first heard it.
I just feel compelled to say, good music is good music no matter where it comes from. Music transcends all religion, borders, & boundaries.

Hey Mr Shepard. Your music is so COOOOOL!! I’m starting to play the piano more because I love your music. I’m learning “Before Dawn” and “Romance of the seas”(because they are easier than other piano songs I want to play, like Mozart and learning your music is my way of practicing and learning piano). But one of the reasons I like and want to play your music is because it’s christian (it’s really annoying when you hear a good song but where it comes from is bad). I love the names you gave them as well, and how they match the song.
You have a song (I think it’s “Breathless”) and it sounds like moonlight sonata m1 (at the start) but at the same time the song is original and good.
God Bless, Sebastian B.
P.S. What are you working on/doing now days?

The Time Fades Away part took me about 5 hours to get down. lol.
Here’s a helpful tip for the 10-note reaching: Stretch those fingers!
I’m learning Foolish Youth atm and the song reminds me of how difficult Moonlight Sonata is… There’s so many chord changes!
I agree with “someone who like music”, KEEP MAKING SHEPARDLICOUS MUSIC!!! <3
Thank-you Isaac for inspiring me to play piano again back in 2009. If it wasn't for Music Catch, I would have probably stopped playing piano a long time ago! *GASP!* ._.

@Mary, thanks for writing! No doubt, that part of Time Fades Away is difficult. There are two parts in particular for the right-hand melody at measure 37 and similar measures.
1. The first six notes are straight-forward, but then I play the next two notes with two distinct movements: I use my pinky to hit the high G, and then I lift my hand and hit the low D with my thumb.
2. The second hard part is hitting the four pairs of notes that follow (well, the first one or two pairs to be exact). It depends on how large your reach is. If I lower my right hand in down to the side of the keyboard a bit, I can play the C and high E at the same time. I use my thumb to play C, D, E, F, and keep my pinky on the high E. That is as far as my fingers go, though.
If you can’t reach that far, just skip the low notes as they go up, until you can reach again.
By the way, here is a fan video that someone made, which shows a performance of Time Fades Away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unz2cBYrzsM
Thanks again!

Thank you so much for sharing all this beautiful, inspired music with the world.
I do have a technical question. Would you please make some suggestions on how to reach the notes on the treble clef in measure 37 on Time Fades Away while the left hand plays the sixteenth notes on the bass clef?
Thank you! and God Bless!

Mr. Shepard, neither words nor notes can describe how much I adore your music. Ever since I heard Before Dawn on Music Catch, I’ve been following your music very intently. I have your first 3 albums and plan to get Awaken soon, all have been a great influence on me as a pianist and musician, thank you so much.

My son is 10 years old and started listening to your music when he first heard it on Music Catch 2. He plays by ear on the piano the music you have so wonderfully shared with us. He has been asking his piano teacher to teach him to read it also…so he can learn even more of it. His favorite so far is “Leaves in the Wind”. I have also fallen in love with it. You have been blessed with a most beautiful gift. Thank you for sharing it! I am going to share it with others.

I just love the piano! my dream is to have and play on a grand piano. at this time I only have an out of tune piano at home. I think it still sounds beautiful. I love all of your music and am learning how to play Before dawn and Memories Never fade. Whenever I listen to any piano music it fills me with a kind of peace, I feel that life will go on and that nothing bad will happen. Thank you very much for all of the music you have made, it truly is a blessing.
